LACE WIGS

When is a wig an Un-Wig? When it’s a Lace Wig.

Lace wigs’ style and comfort are unsurpassed in the world. Their most important quality is their authenticity. They are so realistic, it appears that your natural hair is growing out of your scalp. It’s magic. These wigs can be worn pulled back, in an up-do, and in a ponytail. Have you ever heard of Tyra Banks and Beyonce Bowles? When they appear on camera or on the red carpet, their lace wigs are naturally perfect and perfectly natural. I never dreamed they were wearing wigs until they both talked about it. Then there’s Jessica Simpson, whose wigs are selling like hot cakes.

Besides their natural appearance, lace wigs are also very lightweight. The cap of the wig conforms to the shape of your head, so the fit is secure. Lace wigs provide longer wear than traditional wigs. They also protect and nurture the growth of your own natural hair. That’s a good thing for us all. They come to the rescue for medium hair loss. Compared to other wigs, there is less tension on the scalp and the scalp can breathe. Now what ever your ethnic heritage, a lace wig can be made for you.

There are two basic types of lace wigs to choose from: They are Full Lace Wigs and Front Lace Wigs. I need to get a little technical here because my hairdresser said we needed to know the difference. Full Lace Wigs are handmade of super lightweight lace materials, throughout. This lace is usually French or Swiss. French lace is a little less natural but more durable, making it the popular choice. The lace is attached at the hairline, using adhesive or tape. Lace edges are then trimmed to match your hairline for undetectable wear Hair is then hand-tied to the lace. Hair is tied in one direction, only, so it lies flat and natural. No one wants an unnatural, thick hairline.

Front Lace Wigs, on the other hand, have lace built in to the front, only. A variety of materials make up the back. The back is sometimes machine-made but you can choose to have your entire front lace wig, hand-tied. It’s a personal choice and your hairdresser can help you with your decision.

Besides choosing color and style, you will need to select the Density (how thick the hair is). Normally, light to medium or medium, will give you the natural look you want. Your hairdresser will show you the different aspects to measuring your head, possibly the most important part when you are ordering your wig.

How long your wigs lasts depends, mainly, on your care, the adhesives and your body chemistry.

While professionals are needed when your wig is new, you can learn how to apply and care for it, yourself. This will save you money down the road.

The wig companies admit, there is a downside. As you can imagine, lace wigs cost more. Too, you need to patient when ordering, since it can take several months to make your wig.

If you’ve always wanted to wear you hair back, in an up-do or ponytail, this wig is for you. My hairdresser said if I go this route, I will not be disappointed…..and neither will you.
