(ALMATY, March 30) -- Almaty, the largest city in Kazakhstan, is busy making final preparations for the arrival of the sacred flame, planned for April 2, 2008. This will be the first stop in the Olympic torch's worldwide relay.

This is the first time the Almaty has been included on the torch relay route of any Olympics.

In order to ensure the high-quality of the Olympic torch relay, the government has allocated 2.5 million US dollars for preparatory work. Signs have been posted all over the city informing and promoting residents of the upcoming torch relay.

The stage and other related areas of the center where the torch will be celebrated are currently being completed. Parts of the main road leading to the stadium have been blocked off for better crowd control. Tents have been set up for VIPs along the sides of the platform, a symbol of Almaty's tradition.

Planners are assured that by April 1, construction work will be completely finished, and Almaty will be ready to welcome the torch with open arms on Wednesday.
