Do you like Emoticons? How much is too much?

When you're emailing someone or chatting online, I often find myself using an abundant amount of smiley faces and such. It's just become natural to throw them in without even noticing half of the time. I've even caught myself accidently slipping them into business professional emails.

When reading someone's profile, or talking to them via chat/email, what is your thoughts on smileys? If people use a lot of =) and =P faces and such, is that a turn off, or a sign that they lack intelligents, or do you not notice them so much?

The way I've always looked at it is that text is often a bit more impersonal than talking on the phone or in person. You can't see the person's facial expression or hear the tone of their voice, so it's hard to tell whether someone is joking or being serious.

If I messaged you and you were a female friend that I knew for a short period of time, but enough that I could joke around with you in a sexual manner a little, and I said "Hey, want to hook up and have some fun?" you'd possibly take that at face value as I'm trying to hook up with you and just being extremely blunt. But if I said "Hey, want to hook up and have some fun? =P" then the funny face, at least in my eyes, makes it seem like I'm not really being serious and just joking around. (granted I made that a little more extreme than it needed to be, it gets the point across a little more I think). In no way is my humor that dry! *grin*

The banana is green because it hasn't ripened

I enjoy emoticons and often wish I had the use of certain ones that are my favorites at message boards when I'm chatting
