It interesting how many Cantonese and Taishanese speakers - overseas and in hk - still refer Mandarin as Guo Yu (國語) or Gwok Yu in Std Cantonese or Gok Wui in Taishanese... rather than Putonghua (普通話), even the Mainland Cantonese and Taishanese speakers do as well. Is this due the the fact that the Kuomintang or Chinese Nationalist Party founded by Sun Yat Sen was very influencial in the province and the Cantonese language?? Also the fact that Dr. Sun was also from that province...
About Dr. Sun being Hakka or Cantonese, i read from an article where his daughter admited that her father came from a Zhongshan Cantonese speaking village surrounded by Hakka speaking villages, so i don't think Dr. Sun is hakka, but of course since he married a hakka wife (one of the Song sisters) and his descendants retain both hakka and cantonese bloods.
