It is well-known that the most difficult for us to improve our oral english is that we have too less opportunity to practise.So we think of English Corner,where we can practise english with foreigners and English learners.I don't know if you noticed and found some strange phenomena in English corner.
The first,many people go to English corner just listening.From beginning to end,they said nothing at all.I wonder what is the purpose they go to English corner.In my opinion,to practise listening,they'd better stay at home and listen to the radio,tape and watch TV. They are afraid to make mistakes.They are ashamed.NO.They have to overcome theirselves and open mouth first.It is well-known that you can not learn swimming just by standing on the shore and watching swimming.
The second,it is conceivable that english learners hope to talk with a native speaker.In English corner,foreigners are very rare.Many learners surround a foreigner and ask questions one by one.This situation is like a press conference.The foreigner is the spokesman of their government,he has to answer varied questions,politics,economy,religion,culture,diplomacy,etc.That makes the foreigner very boring and tired.If I were him,I would not go there next time.
How to change the situation?Have you ever thought about it?Would you like to give some suggestions?
I'd like to say something first.
To make the English Corner more interesting,more efficient,in my opinion,we can do in following way.
All of us must actively take part in the chat.We must help one another.We talk not only with foreigners,but also with chinese.
Many foreigners who come China are interested in Chinese culture,Chinese history,Chinese music,travelling in China etc.We live in China and grown up in China.More or less,we know it more than most of foreigners.It is easy for us to talk about ourselves for we
are very familiar with it.
The last I want to say is that I am wonder why Many of us don't like to talk about our own culture.A few Chinese look down upon our own culture.They are ashamed to talk about.They are only interested in western world
