I'm just getting started in SEO and am trying to decide on which keyword research tool(s) to subscribe to. The two that I've been looking at so far are WordTracker and Keyword Discovery, which both seem to be very popular.
Does anyone have experience using these tools for very narrow search terms?
I've had the chance to use a full version of WordTracker and am very discouraged with the results. Many of my clients are in very specialized industries, and so a lot of the keywords I research with WordTracker show very few or zero hits. In addition, when you go on to the part where it shows you searches broken down by search engine and number of competing sites, all of the 20 or so keywords I investigated gave me the exact same results for all search engines.
That just seems a little fishy to me, I'm not sure if I can trust WordTracker's data when it comes to these narrow search terms. So far, it has been an excellent tool for suggesting new terms, but from what I've read, Keyword Discovery may actually have a larger database of unique keywords to suggest.
The cost of Keyword Discovery is prohibitive, and I would like to get some of your opinions about whether it will be worth the cost to try it out. I know they have a larger sampling, but with such narrow terms, will it really make that much of a difference?
Also, another part of my concern is needing data to report back to my clients. If I show them WordTracker's data, that their most relevant keywords have zero searches over a 100-day period, they're not going to feel very confident about our SEO services.
Thanks in advance for your help!
