New postby Majdoube on Fri Jun 27, 2008 3:02 am

The International Chamber of Commerce's new rules for Letters of Credit, UCP600, came into force for all new L/Cs issued from 1 July 2007. They are a complete re-write of the previous UCP500 with changes affecting banks, exporters and importers.

You can learn about these new rules and at the same time gain a better understanding of how L/Cs work at this seminar presented by the Import/Export Training Centre.

Learn about:
• The completely new structure of UCP600
• New Definitions and Interpretations
• Changes in concepts of "presentation", "negotiation" etc
• Changes to Transport Documents, including Bills of Lading
• Changes about Original and Copy documents
• New rule if Documents are lost between banks
• Consistency and contradictions within Documents
• and many, many others

Who should attend:
If you are in management, sales/marketing, finance and accounts, document preparation, despatch, purchasing or in some other way involved in exporting or importing then you really should come to this seminar.

Why you should attend:
The rules changed on 1 July 2007 so you need to know about them. The rules have been completely re-written with many major and subtle changes.
This seminar will go through them point-by-point, so that the whole of UCP600 becomes familiar to you. The new and changed rules will be high-lighted.

Objectives:
In this seminar, you will be expected to acquire skills, knowledge and competence in understanding the concept of L/Cs and their governing rules - UCP600 (Uniform Customs & Practice for Documentary Credits, ICC publ no 600).

Expected outcomes:
After participating in the seminar, you will be able to:
* explain the concept and benefits of payments by L/C
* explain the Shipment-Document-Payment processes
* read, understand and analyse an L/C for all its terms and conditions
* prepare a detailed message to the applicant for an amendment
* explain the purposes and benefits of confirming an L/C
* specify to your customers your requirements for their L/C
* prepare commercial documents in accordance with an L/C
* instruct shipping companies, freight forwarders, insurers etc to issue their documents in compliance with an L/C

Training strategy:
You will be required to not only attend but be actively involved in the whole day's processes. Sessions will be comprised of lectures, involvement by participants, visual presentations on screen.

You'll receive a set of training notes and your own copies of the International Chamber of Commerce publication UCP600 --- $32 value, included in your enrolment fee!

Program design and presentation:
This seminar has been designed by Bob Ronai, JP, AIMM, MAIEx, and is presented by him. Bob is a member of International Chamber of Commerce Australia’s Banking Committee and has been actively involved in the review process for UCP600. He holds a diploma in Export Management from the Australian Institute of Export, and various training credentials. Bob has over 41 years experience in exporting and importing as well as more than 17 years experience in the design and delivery of training in this field. He has presented seminars for the University of Western Sydney, Austrade, Australian Institute of Export (NSW), NSW Department of State Regional Development, Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Westpac Banking Corporation, National Australia Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Business Enterprise Centres NSW, and many more including corporate "in-house" training. These seminars are delivered in a down-to-earth, practical and non-threatening manner with a complete understanding of the participants' needs (no outside "experts", academics or sales representatives are used).
